Iris mosaic virus is a malady seen more frequently
in bulbous iris, but some rhizomatous and Iris germanica hybrids are also
affected. In addition to the unsightly foliage, beardeds infected with the
disease may be slightly stunted, or they may have no other ill affects
whatsoever. The symptoms of iris moaic virus include light and dark green
mottling with yellow stippling on the foliage. The mottling and stippling are
especially prominent on young leaves.
Iris mosaic virus is thought to be transmitted by
aphids, therefore control of aphids is imperative if you note the virus
starting in your garden. Currently, there is no known cure for the disease.
